Millions of eyeglass wearers are now facing the problem of foggy glasses with the constant use of face masks. While face masks help us stay safe from the coronavirus, they are also causing trouble to you if you wear eyeglasses. Your glasses get foggy while wearing a face mask because you repeatedly breathe out warm air, which escapes from the top edge of the mask and steams up the lenses of your glasses.

Here are some practical tips to avoid foggy glasses if you are an eyeglass wearer who has to wear a face mask to protect yourself from the coronavirus.

  • Wash your lenses with some soapy water

This is a very simple solution to prevent foggy glasses. After washing your lenses with soapy water, shake off the additional moisture and gently dry them with a clean microfiber cloth. Doing so leaves a thin film on the lenses' surface, preventing fog formation on your glasses.

  • Seal the mask properly while wearing

Make sure to form a tight seal by using a piece of double-sided tape across the bridge of your nose before putting it on. This will prevent the warm air you breathe out from escaping your face mask and prevent fog formation on your glasses.

  • Make sure the face mask fits you correctly

Always make sure the face mask you wear is of the proper size and fits snuggly. This is because if the mask is loose, it can let warm air escape into your glasses and make them foggy. To avoid this and to ensure a tight fit, you can create a seal around your nose. This can be done by inserting a moldable material into the upper side of the mask.

  • Adjust your glasses if necessary

Adjust your glasses a bit so that the frame sits slightly farther from your face by adjusting your glasses' nose pads. This allows the hot air you exhale to escape more efficiently instead of getting trapped between the lenses of the glasses and your face.

  • Use de-fogging products if needed

Several over-the-counter anti-fogging sprays can also help to de-fog your glasses. However, be cautious while selecting these products as anti-fogging products designed for cars or other purposes will ruin your prescription lenses.

  • Try breathing downwards

Even though this might feel awkward initially, breathing downward is a quick anti-fog fix. For this, hold your upper lip over your lower lip and blow air downward.

  • Opt for contact lenses

When you are wearing a mask, you can opt for wearing contact lenses. They can lessen stress, ensure a relaxed mask experience, and you do not have to worry about foggy glasses when you are working or while talking to others.

  • Try anti-fog lenses

Buying lenses with an anti-fog coating is also an excellent way to deal with fogging of your eyeglasses. These lenses will shield you against fogging irrespective of the cause of the fog.
